Running the gamut from historical drama to science fiction to campy horror, Steven Spielberg movies appeal to everyone for different reasons. The team at GetCenturyLink.com wondered how geography plays into the Spielberg movies we obsess about—so we did a little digging. See what we found in the map below.

Most searched Steven Spielberg movies by state
Interesting findings
- Saving Private Ryan ranked first for most googled Steven Spielberg movie—19 states searched it more times than any other Spielberg film.
- Schindler’s List ranked second with 9 states, and E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial ranks third with 7 states googling it most.
- Jaws was googled more times than other Steven Spielberg movies in three of the six states that make up New England—where great white sharks migrate in the summer and fall.
- Although based in a fictional New York town, Jaws was filmed on Martha’s Vineyard island in Massachusetts.
- Hawaii, the filming location of Jurassic Park, was the only state to google the dino film more times than any other Spielberg movie.
- West Side Story, New Jersey’s most googled Spielberg film, was filmed in parts of New York and New Jersey.
- Utah might love Steven Spielberg more than any other state does—five movies tied for the most googled Spielberg film there.
- Utahns’ favorite Spielberg films are Hook, Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade, Raiders of the Lost Ark, Saving Private Ryan, and West Side Story.
- By a slim margin, Raiders of the Lost Ark ultimately won as Utah’s most searched Spielberg film.
Methodology
First, we used IMDb and SEMRush to compile all films directed by Steven Spielberg and the search volume for each. We then narrowed the list to the top 15 Spielberg films with the highest overall volume and used Google Trends to determine which films were googled most in each state.
